a story for jake

i don't remember the day you were born at all. i do remember throwing all of my toys on you while you were sleeping in your crib. i think i was trying to make you crawl out and play with me although you couldn't have been more than a few months ole. i remember making you dress up like a girl so that we could play house and be two mommies shopping in the front yard. i remember flooding the garden in the back yard so that the tonka trucks could get good and muddy. i also remember that the burning smell in the kitchen one day was two of my barbie dolls stuck head first into the toaster. you hit me with a baseball bat, i chased you with a butcher knife. we had the longest monopoly tournement ever and i know you were cheating because i was too. you told your friends i would date them if they gave you five dollars. we sold signed (by me) baseball cards to the neighbor kids for way too much money. i remember all the years we tortured each other, stood by each other and i'm glad we had them. what a long strange trip it's been!!
